COLIN KNOX SPEAKS TO BBC NEWS IN RESPONSE TO KNIFE CRIME NUMBERS IN 2021

Recent figures have shown that knife related deaths in the UK in 2021 were as high as they were in 2008, the year Rob Knox was murdered. Simon Jones from BBC News, discussed the ongoing issue with Colin and his views on how it makes him feel every morning to hear of another reported death.

According to The Gaurdian, campaigners said efforts to tackle knife crime had been inadequate and it was now so prevalent, it was becoming normalised, while a senior Labour politician called on the government to take more action to deal with the “epidemic”.

The supposed reduction in figures prompted Met commissioner Cressida Dick to call the falling rates of knife offences a “silver lining” to the pandemic. However, data provided by the Office of National Statistics later showed that a substantial proportion of the reduction could be explained by the decreased levels of armed robberies.

Now, we have teachers reaching out to us saying they’ve got children as young as six carrying knives actively saying they want to stab someone.

Kat Pirnak from the South West Londoner reports that rates of homicide and attempted murder during the pandemic remained comparable to previous years.
